I apologise for my lack of blog posts recently. Life has been so busy this summer. Not that I’m complaining, as it has been full of fun things! Most excitingly, one of my best friends got married in July.
Seeing how incredible her wedding was, inspired me to start doing and not just pinning idea’s! So I sat down and wrote a list of everything I would like to book/do/buy for the wedding. When we first set the date, we had about 22 months on our count down… somehow that has whizzed by and we have now got just over a year. I realise that is still aaaages! But looking at my list of things I want to make myself, I thought I really ought to get started. So I thought I would write this post about my latest craft project, Chalkboard Place Names.
I was inspired by these images on Pinterest from boho-weddings.com
And by these gorgeous vintage style Place Names at my friends wedding
And this is what I have come up with…
If you would like to have a go at making something similar…
What you will need:
Wooden Hearts (I ordered 100 from Amazon)
Chalkboard Spray (I ordered a can for £6.49 from Amazon)
Chalk Pens (this is a great selection of bright colours, again from Amazon)
String or Twine (I used Twine bought from eBay)
Lay the hearts out on a clean, flat surface. I placed mine on some old board from the shed. I recommend doing this part outside as it can be quite smelly and messy.
Shake the can of Chalkboard Spray, and then spray evenly over all of the hearts. I waited about half an hour until this coat was dry and then reapplied. Make sure that you spray from a side angle as well, to cover the edges.
Once they are completely dry, turn the hearts over and repeat Step 2.
So now you have you Chalkboard Hearts. Using the Chalk Pens, you can draw any design you like. I chose a leafy design. I had a couple of practised on paper first before drawing onto the Hearts. Although you can remove the chalk with a damp cloth, you can still see the drawing underneath, so it is better to get it right first time.
Now you can add the names. I have started with my Bridesmaids and Family that I know will definitely be coming. I am going to leave the rest until we get the RSVP’s back next year. I haven’t quite worked out what I’m going to do with our guests with really long names… I’ll just have to write their names really small!
I am going to use Twine to thread through the heart and tie around the napkins on the tables. But you could use Raffia or Ribbon depending on what suits your theme.
And that’s it! They are really simple, but I love how they are turning out!
It cost me £38 to buy all the bits and bobs for 100 Hearts (that’s just 38p each… Bargain!)
What do you think?
