The Proposal

Lucy Blackmore :: in Jan 5, 2014 :: in Engagement, London, Personal Diary :: 4 comments

I have always loved a good Proposal story. In fact I am not ashamed to admit I can’t get enough of You Tube proposals (the cheesier the better!). If you share my passion, here is the chance to read about one more…

For our 8th Anniversary, my lovely boyfriend Christian offered to take me away for the weekend. He wanted to keep the location a surprise. So on Saturday 26th October we set off in the car, and ended up in London. I was very excited when we checked into the Metropolitan hotel in Mayfair. We spent the afternoon doing a bit of shopping on Oxford Street, before heading back to the hotel. Christian told me he had made plans for dinner, and I needed to dress up! He had booked for us to go to Galvins at Windows. He is a big foodie and has seen a programme featuring the chef and was keen to go. After some delicious food and cocktails we got in a cab (in the pouring rain) and set off to the next surprise location…. Paramount Bar at the top of the Centre Point building.

Once inside, we went straight to the viewing gallery and ordered some cocktails. This is when he started behaving suspiciously. He kept wanting us to move tables (I realised afterwards that he was trying to find somewhere private). Eventually we went downstairs to the bar on the floor below, but within a few minutes a member of staff came over and politely told us they were closing this part of the bar and could we make our way back upstairs. So we ended up at the same table where we started, but this time we were the only ones there.

I was chatting away when Christian started to sound serious… as soon as I realised what he was about to do, I burst into tears. He then dropped to one knee and I just blubbed like a baby! I didn’t even realise he was holding a ring at first. As soon as I could speak again I said Yes!! And cried a bit more. Even Christian cried a bit, although he denies this now!

We spent the rest of the weekend with the biggest grins on our faces. We loved phoning our family and friends to tell them the good news, and I couldn’t stop looking at my beautiful engagement ring.

Here are a few pictures from the weekend…

(excuse the poor quality… I was in such a bubble I couldn’t concentrate on taking good photo’s!)
