So far on our wedding to-do list we have the following:
Church – done
Reception Venue – done
Photographer – done
My dress – done
Next on my list is the wedding flowers. I realised that a lot of my general inspiration pins on Pinterest were based around the flowers. I think they can really deliver a theme, especially the ‘boho/rustic’ theme we are aiming for.
So I have started sending out some enquiry emails and have even had a Skype meeting. We live about 2 hours away from Yorkshire (where our wedding will take place) and can only get there at weekends. And no surprise, for any wedding supplier, they tend to be busy at weekends (especially this time of year!).
I am really enjoying doing research on flowers. In fact, I am considering signing up to an evening class in floristry because I think it might be something I would like to learn more about and pursue as a hobby. Has anyone else been on a floristry course?
I’ve put together some inspiration mood boards showing the types of flowers I am thinking of. All of these images are from Pinterest, so if you like what you see, you can find the images here (where you can click on the images to see the original sources)
For the bouquet, I love the rustic and informal look, with lots of greenery! I also prefer string or burlap rather than ribbon to tie the flowers. My favourite flowers are Hydrangeas and Dahlias. I would like to use these to make up the bulk of the bouquet with smaller, wild looking flowers to compliment. Please feel free to help me out on what flowers are within these bouquets!
For the church, I love the idea of jam jars filled with flowers that look like they’ve been picked fresh from the garden. Another favourite of mine is Gypsophila. Maybe I will have a mixture of the two.
I have got two large milk churns, which I would like to place outside the church (as long as it’s not raining!) Ideally these will be filled to the brim with all sorts of rustic shades and plenty of greenery… and of course some Hydrangeas!
For other ideas, I want to continue the Jam Jar theme from the church, into the Tipi for the reception, with a mixture of rustic looking flowers (please correct me if I’m wrong but I think the below Jam Jar contains Wax Flowers and Dahlia’s). On a side note, I love the tree trunk slice! I really want to get myself a Wood Burning Pen to have a go at something like this.
I just love the rustic shades of the image on the bottom right. I think these are Hydrangeas again!
And finally, the button holes. The image here is actually made from dried flowers, but the overall size and colours are exactly what I’ve got in mind. But I am going to let Christian and his Ushers have a look and decide what he would like for these.
I will let you know how I get on with my flower research! And I will keep you updated when we’ve chosen our florist! If you have any suggestions, especially how to make the most of using flowers inside the Tipi then I would love to hear your ideas!
