I have always been self conscious about my crooked teeth. Like many teenagers, I wore braces for about 18 months followed by a retainer for a year, but since then my teeth have gradually moved. I spoke to my dentist about my options a few years ago and was recommended veneers to cover up the crookedness. I wasn’t keen on the idea, especially when the dentist told me I needed to be sure that I could afford to pay for replacements if the veneers got damaged.
There are a couple of girls at work who have got braces, so after chatting to them, and doing some research online, I found out about 6 Month Smile Braces. This is a new technique that is similar to the train track braces I had originally, but focusses on the front teeth. My back teeth haven’t moved as much, and you can’t see them anyway. So this seemed like a perfect solution. And the best bit, is that it only takes 6 months. This means that if I start now, I will have straight teeth in time for our October wedding!
Last week I had my first appointment at the Dental Suite in Leicester to discuss my options. They were obliged to discuss all options, but we agreed that the 6 Month Smile Braces are the most appropriate for my teeth. And today I’ve been back to start the process with an x-ray and consultation to check that my teeth are suitable for the braces. Being back today bought back memories from my teens and my many orthodontic appointments! But it was pain-free and easy. The dentist confirmed that my teeth are in good condition, with the exception of my wisdom teeth, which are strangely positioned horizontally! Apparently this is quite common and can be left unless they start to cause problems. She also said I’ve got to have a scale and polish with the hygienist before they can fit the braces to make sure that they are being fitted to the enamel and not any plaque that has built up (especially on my bottom tooth where it is set back).
I thought that other brides-to-be might be interested to follow my progress so I am going to show you the state of my teeth as of today… and I will keep you updated throughout the 6 month process. I know that I have found other peoples experiences interesting in helping me to decide to go ahead with the braces.
The pictures below are pretty horrendous! I am so self conscious of my teeth and the only reason I am posting these photo’s is because I know that they are going to be lovely and straight soon
