The last 4 weeks have flown by since I had my braces fitted. For the first few days, my mouth felt very tender. It really didn’t help that I managed to drop the hoover on my face! I also struggled to eat properly because I had bite guards fitted. But I keep reminding myself that I chose to have these braces so I just have to deal with everything that comes with it!
On Thursday I went back to The Dental Suite in Leicester for my first review appointment. I tried not to think about this too much beforehand. But as I sat in the waiting room I started to get nervous! My teeth were still feeling a bit sore and I was worried that it was going to hurt! I also remembered that before I had the braces fitted, the dentist explained that I might need to have my teeth filed down slightly, to help with the overcrowding. I had visions of this being some horrendous drilling machine! Whilst the reality wasn’t exactly pleasant, it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as it could have been.
The dentist carefully removed the elastics and wire. She then used a metal ribbon (that is best described as a cross between sandpaper and dental floss) to file the edges of my teeth. This wasn’t painful, but made a very loud noise in my head that made me shudder. She then replaced the wire and added new elastics. I have to admit, this did hurt a bit. But the pain is quite reassuring… I guess it must mean the braces are working!
So I thought I would share some images of how my teeth are looking now. I am amazed at how quickly they are straightening up! I apologise for the quality of the images. It’s quite tricky to get my camera to focus so close up!
